Every pupil learns a musical instrument, starting with the recorder as a foundation to reading music and exploring music making. As they move through the School, they can choose to follow woodwind, brass or string route as part of the core curriculum. There is a band and an orchestra for those who enjoy playing collaboratively and every child has a weekly half hour singing lesson. Children in Key Stage 2 (KS2) have their singing lessons with the Head, Claire Lilley. In Key Stage 1 (KS1) they are taught by Assistant Head, Hannah Farnie.
Through the year there are plenty of concerts and plays. Each academic year ends with an informal music concert and a chance for the instrumentalists to play in front of an audience, followed by tea and cakes!
A concert or play is staged at the end of every term. At Christmas, Early Years and KS1 children take part in a Christmas Show, while KS2 children join in our Christmas Celebration concert. At Easter, Year 3 and 4 pupils take part in an Easter celebration concert. They also get a chance to perform in front of an audience at our famous Easter Bonnet parade. At the end of the Summer Term, Year 6 put on a production as their parting gift to the Junior School.
