Our approach is different to other schools; the environment we live in, the way in which we teach, our Quaker values, and our long history make Sidcot distinct.

What Are Quaker Values?

The values of curiosity, simplicity, empathy, personal responsibility, speaking up, and being heard are at the heart of everything we do at Sidcot - they’re all part of the Quaker philosophy that underpins our school values. We empower all of our students to ‘live adventurously’, both through their learning and their extra-curricular activities.

We encourage pupils to be curious, live life to the full, make a difference, value others, be themselves, and surprise themselves - we believe all of this is essential on the journey to becoming a well-rounded individual.

Sidcot School’s Aims And Values

Our school aims and values are at the heart of everything we do, acting as a touchstone for our entire school community. The Quaker values underpinning the Sidcot School ethos are:

  • Truth and integrity
  • Equality and community
  • Peace
  • Simplicity
  • Sustainability
For those untroubled by notions of social pretension or academic snobbery, yet for whom a considerate altruistic atmosphere really matters, this is just the place.

Learning At Sidcot

Another aspect of the Sidcot Difference is how we approach learning. The Sidcot Learning Wheel informs all of our teaching at Sidcot, acting as a tangible expression of how our values meet the needs of our students - it helps us to make sure that all of our learning is underpinned by our Quaker values.

We pride ourselves on providing quality teaching from our Pre-School to our Sixth Form, while outside of the classroom we have a programme of activities for Sidcot students (PASS), to provide all of our students with the opportunity to live adventurously.

Meanwhile, our Centre for Peace and Global Studies is designed to bring 21st century Quakerism to life, as we encourage students to look beyond their own experiences, into the community and the wider world.

We also like to make the most of our beautiful outdoor surroundings, and have a dedicated Outdoor Learning Coordinator to ensure our students can spend time in the great outdoors.
