We passionately encourage Junior School children to learn a musical instrument and to enjoy musical pursuits. For those children with a natural affinity for music, having an outlet in which to enjoy it is essential in allowing them to be themselves and develop their interests. For others who have less experience with music, it can ignite curiosity and they may even surprise themselves by discovering an untapped talent.
Musical Performances
We stage plays and concerts throughout the year so that children can enjoy performing and demonstrate what they have learnt. At the end of every academic year, we have an informal music concert, which is a chance for the instrumentalists to play in front of an audience. There is always tea and cakes on offer to enjoy too!
At the end of the Winter term in December and the Spring term at Easter, there is a concert that each year group can be involved in:
December Shows
Our Early Years and Key Stage 1 children take part in a Christmas Show, while Key Stage 2 children join in our Christmas Celebration concert.
Easter Shows
At Easter, Year 3 and 4 pupils take part in an Easter celebration concert. They also get a chance to perform in front of an audience at our famous Easter Bonnet parade.
Summer
As their parting gift to the Junior School, Year 6 put on a production at the end of the summer term, before they head off to their next chapter in Senior School.
Music and WellbeingÂ
Aside from the obvious benefits of developing a talent and a passion for music in all its forms, music is also an excellent way to manage emotional health and wellbeing. It gives children the opportunity to enjoy their individuality, but also brings them together in social settings. The Sidcot Curriculum is designed to shape children for the world around them, beyond just academia, and to live adventurously. Music is integral to this and can truly help children to flourish.
