Setting Off for France
45 Year 7 and 8 students enjoyed an unforgettable 5-day adventure in Normandy, packed with opportunities to practise French, experience local culture, take on exciting challenges and explore some of France's most significant historical sites.
Living Adventurously
The first full day was devoted to outdoor adventure. Students spent the morning at Bayeux Adventure, where they challenged themselves on the high ropes course, raced down tubing slopes and enjoyed a range of team-building activities. Later, they headed to Gold Beach to experience the thrill of sand yachting along the Normandy coast.
Experiencing French Culture
Friday combined French culture with one of France's most iconic landmarks. After learning how to make traditional French crêpes, students travelled to Mont-Saint-Michel, exploring the abbey and island before taking part in a guided walk across the bay.
Language Practice & Local Flavours
Saturday focused on language immersion. In Avranches, students completed a "Market Mission", putting their French speaking skills into practice with local stallholders while experiencing everyday life in Normandy.
Following a picnic lunch, the group visited the Ferme des Cara-Meuh, where they enjoyed a guided tour and sampled local cheese and caramel products. A visit to Carrefour offered one final taste of French culture and the chance to pick up souvenirs.
Exploring Normandy's Historic Past
The final day took students to the Château de Falaise, birthplace of William the Conqueror, before visits to Omaha Beach and Arromanches 360. These experiences provided a powerful insight into the events of D-Day and the Normandy campaign.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
Throughout the trip, students demonstrated enthusiasm, resilience and curiosity, embracing every challenge and opportunity. Whether speaking French in local markets, tackling outdoor adventures or exploring historic sites, they gained confidence, independence and a deeper understanding of French culture and history.
Normandy 2026 was a memorable journey filled with adventure, friendship and learning beyond the classroom.
