Year 10 Work Experience Week

By Alison Pike, Head of Futures

Our Year 10 students enjoyed a fantastic range of work experience placements this year, showing enthusiasm and maturity as they gained insight into an impressive variety of industries.

Many stayed within the local community, working in primary schools such as Churchill and Winscombe, where they developed confidence and communication skills. Others explored healthcare, charity and wellbeing through placements at organisations like St Peter’s Hospice, Nuffield Health, and Vet clinics, gaining insight into caring professions.

Students also experienced the fast-paced world of business and hospitality, with placements at venues such as Puxton Park, the Riverside Inn, and retail settings including Bertie’s Pet Store. Meanwhile, hands-on roles with companies like Ashton Electrical and model-making experiences provided valuable practical experience.

A number of students stepped into professional environments, working with estate agents, architects, and recruitment firms, while a few even ventured further afield, with opportunities in Madrid and New York.

Across all placements, students represented the school brilliantly, impressing employers with their positivity, reliability and willingness to learn. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and grateful to all the organisations, parents and guardians who supported them.

Hear from Our Students

''During the holidays, I did my work experience at a premium restaurant called Krähnholm in Bremen-Nord, Burglesum. I helped the staff with different tasks and learned how a professional restaurant works. It was interesting to see how the kitchen and service team work together. I also improved my communication and teamwork skills. Overall, it was a great experience, and I learned a lot.''

''Work experience (at Mendip Golf Club) was super fun, but also challenging; it tested my skills every day, which led me to learn very helpful skills.''

''I worked at Bristol Maritime, where I helped sea survival instructors with their coaching sessions. I learnt that I enjoy working in an active and physical environment. It gave me a clear idea of what I will want to do for work later on.''

''I worked in a St Peter's Hospice charity shop, and I sorted, priced and hung up clothes. I used a lot of organisational skills while doing this. I learned to be more efficient and think more carefully about what I was doing, which will be very useful in the future.''

''I went to New York to work in Tea and Sympathy, and I learned a lot of skills, boosting my confidence. I definitely improved myself, and I feel more ready for the working world.''

''I worked at King's Leisure Centre and had a great time. I learnt that I enjoy working in an active environment, and I also enjoy teaching things I enjoy, like swimming. During my time there, I helped behind reception, and I also helped teach classes for beginner swim students. In the end, I really enjoyed it, and I would gladly do it again.''

''I went to Ashton Electricians, where I stayed for the whole five days. I changed multiple smoke alarms, tested smoke alarms, learned how to change a light and learned how to test a house's electrics before being sold.''
