Gunes Gunduz has been recognised by the UK Education Guide for his fantastic charitable work following on from the devastating earthquakes experienced in Turkey in February.

Here is his own personal account of his work. Well done Gunes!

Hi. I am Gunes, and I am from Turkey. The day after the earthquakes that happened in Turkey on the 6th of February 2023, I decided to raise money in my school to help anyone affected by the earthquake. As a person who knew people and had travelled to the area 2 months before the earthquake, it was heart-wrenching to witness the widespread destruction and devastation. After a week, we started our campaign around the school, which began with me going to an assembly to inform people about what had happened and how we were going to raise money. The school also supported me by organizing a disaster lunch, where people had soup and bread instead of a 3-course meal, and the leftover money was sent to help the victims of this calamity. In total, we raised £1,273, with £800 coming from the disaster lunch and £473 donated by the students within a span of 3 hours. I am very satisfied with the work I have done for my country, and it makes me proud to be able to do my best to support my people during hard times like this.
