By Matt Lloyd, Director of Sport
It’s no secret – Sports Day is hands-down my favourite day of the school year, and Senior Sports Day 2025 absolutely lived up to expectations. In fact, it may just have been the best one yet. Since we reimagined the event from a traditional day of Athletics to a full-blown celebration of Sport, the day has continued to evolve and flourish. This year, students competed in 11 different sports, showcasing skill, spirit, and some serious House pride:
- Rounders
- Touch Rugby
- Volleyball
- Tennis
- Archery
- Climbing
- Golf
- Skateboarding
- Cycling
- Tug-of-War
- …and, of course, the centrepiece: Track & Field Athletics
A Celebration of Choice and Challenge
The scale of preparation required for an event like this can’t be understated, and I do occasionally (half-jokingly) compare myself to Seb Coe prepping for London 2012! But offering such a diverse range of sports is vital: it ensures every student finds a way to shine, compete, and contribute.
The magic moment for me is always the same – once the teams are out on the field, the energy lifts, the buzz kicks in, and I get to stand back and witness hundreds of students competing, laughing, and giving it their all across the astroturf, tennis courts and playing fields. The weather helped too – thank you, sunshine!
This year’s theme was ‘Competition and House Representation’, and that ethos truly came alive in every event. A huge thank you to the PASS Team and our incredible Sidcot PTA for helping bring back crowd favourites like Skateboarding and Climbing, and for ensuring the day ran smoothly from start to finish.
Sporting Stars and Special Guests
Among the many highlights were the record-breaking performances, including Seb’s incredible new 200m record, smashing a benchmark that had stood strong since 1995!
We were honoured to welcome back Olympian and Old Scholar, Kate Reed, who spent the day with us inspiring athletes young and old – what better way to be greeted at the finish line than by a true Olympian? Also back on the track was our very own Martin, former colleague and GB Triathlete, who kept perfect time throughout the day.

Thank You, Team Sidcot
It’s the people who make this day so memorable. To every staff member, every helper, every House leader, and every student who competed with heart – thank you.
A huge shoutout to the Sidcot School Maintenance and Housekeeping Teams – your behind-the-scenes magic is essential. And to the Catering Team – your legendary Champions Packed Lunch keeps us all fuelled and smiling.
Special thanks to Dave Turner, our brilliant guest starter, and to Nathan Rogers from Rogers and Hammond Tool Hire, who once again provided the generator powering our sound system. Your support is priceless.
As we pack away the cones and clear the tracks, I’m already counting the days until next year. Here's to Senior Sports Day 2026 – may it be even bigger, bolder and more brilliant.
