King's Bruton U12 Hockey Tournament

With our only familiar opponents being Wellington School, we travelled over to King's Bruton not knowing what the afternoon would have in store for us.

Straight off the bus, we found ourselves facing a prepped and ready Mount Kelly, who put us on the back foot for the first quarter. It wasn't long until Finn Painter rallied the boys and directed us into a spell of territorial dominance. The score remained 0-0 until the crazy last few minutes, where some slick passing from Mount Kelly forwards managed to break down our defence, conceding three goals.

We went straight into our second fixture against Hazlegrove, unknowingly aware that our first two fixtures were against the two strongest teams in the tournament. the score in that one finished 2-0 to our opponents, but some fantastic goalkeeping denied Ted Ballard and Finn Painter from scoring some well worked opportunities, so maybe on another day that could have been different.

After a short break we took on Forres Sandle Manor, transferring the momentum we established within our first two back to back fixtures and deservedly took points away with a 1-1 draw. Again, many opportunities were created from strong drives forward by George and Adam on our wings, whilst Hugo Blair kept our defence structured and tough to break down.

Sidcot's afternoon continued to develop with fantastic spells of possession and improved game management, but losses to Wellington (2-0) and Salisbury Cathedral didn't quite reflect the hearty effort and toughness on the field.

The boy's had a great time and we hope to continue taking steps forward towards improving personally and as a team.

A massive well done for all of your hard work and effort today,
