GCSE Results Success 2026

A week after celebrating the brilliant results of our A Level and BTEC students, Sidcot School was thrilled to welcome Year 11 students and their families to campus to celebrate an equally fantastic set of GCSE and BTEC Level 2 results.

As a non-selective day and boarding school, Sidcot proudly offers a flexible variety of GCSE, IGCSE, and BTEC subjects alongside a specialist one-year GCSE pathway programme for our international students. Seeing these diverse pathways culminate in such wonderful achievements is a true testament to our community's dedication.

Our students performed brilliantly across the board, securing results that compare exceptionally well with the national picture:

  • 29% of all grades were awarded at grades 9–7 (A*–A)
  • 71% at grades 9–5
  • 89% at grades 9–4 (A*–C), far exceeding the national average of 70.7%

However, the true measure of a Sidcot education lies in the incredible progress our students make. As a cohort, our students achieved an outstanding value-added score of 0.8 meaning that, on average, their results were nearly a full grade higher than might have been expected based on their prior attainment.

Behind every statistic is a story of hard work, resilience, and personal growth, and it has been a privilege to watch this year's cohort truly thrive.

Student Success

Caitlin, a School Scholar recipient, achieved a remarkable eight 9’s, an 8 and a 7. Commenting on her results, she said:

“I'm really pleased with my results, and so thankful for all the amazing teaching and experiences I received at Sidcot. The student-focused environment at Sidcot really allowed me to explore my interests further and grow as a student.”

Academic Scholar Jacob achieved an outstanding seven GCSEs between 9 and 7 and a distinction in BTEC Sport. He said:

“I’m incredibly happy with my results today and very grateful to all my teachers who have supported and encouraged me throughout my studies. They have helped me achieve as much as I have while also inspiring me to develop a genuine passion for the subjects I’ve studied. I’m excited to take the next step and continue pursuing the subjects I’m most passionate about.”

Janka, an international student who joined Sidcot on the one-year IGCSE Pathway programme, achieved grade 7 and higher in all her subjects, securing her place in Sidcot Sixth Form to study Economics, Maths, and Chemistry. Janka commented on her results:

“I am thrilled with my results today and excited to continue my journey at Sidcot for Sixth Form. I am incredibly grateful that my teachers have been fantastic, providing endless support and encouragement leading up to my GCSEs.”

Maud, a Music Scholar, attained five 9s, an 8, 7 and three 6s and will continue at Sidcot to pursue the IB Diploma, a popular alternative to A Levels. Sidcot is one of the few schools near Bristol that provides this challenging diploma. Maud commented:

“I’m really proud of my exam results! I’m so pleased that my hard work has paid off. I also want to send a huge thank you to all the teachers who really helped me and encouraged me to work my hardest. Their support was a gift. A big thanks to my mum as well, my own personal cheerleader who reminded me what was most important is that I tried my very best. I am really excited to continue at Sidcot next year, take the IB and remain a proud nerd! Congrats to everyone who was there in the exam hall with me!”

Sport Scholar, Thea, also received a fantastic set of GCSE and BTEC results, including a Distinction* in BTEC Sport, the highest possible grade.

After receiving my GCSE results, I am happy with my grades and proud of the work I put into achieving them. Sidcot has been a great place to learn and prepare for my exams and I’m especially grateful to my teachers for their support and guidance throughout.  This outcome wouldn’t have been possible without them. I’m looking forward to starting the IB at Sidcot in September and I’m excited about what the future holds.

Scarlett achieved a phenomenal 9 GCSE's (four 8s, three 7s and two 6s), and has chosen to go on to study Biology, Chemistry and French at A Levels:

“I am very happy with my results and extremely thankful for all the hard work and support my teachers have given me along the way, as I don't think I would have has as much confidence with out  their encouragement over the 2 years, which I'm very grateful for.”

Congratulations, Class of 2026

Commenting on the strong set of results from this year's cohort, James Jones, Head, said:

“We are very pleased to celebrate the achievements of our GCSE students. Their results reflect the hard work, commitment and determination they have shown throughout their studies.

Behind these results lie many individual stories of young people exploring new ideas, developing their interests and pursuing subjects they are passionate about. While we are proud of their academic achievements, we are equally proud of the young adults they have become during their time at Sidcot. They have developed the skills, confidence and resilience that will equip them for the next stage of their education and for life beyond school, as well as the character and values that will enable them to make a positive contribution to the world around them.

We look forward to welcoming many of them back to Sidcot in September to continue their studies on our A-level, BTEC and IB courses.”
