Upper Fourth (Year 9) Information – Tuesday 19 November 2019

GCSE Options Evening for Upper Fourth students and parents/guardians:

In PSHE this half term, Upper Fourth students have begun the process by which they select their GCSE subjects for next year. We recognise that this is an important and potentially challenging time in a student’s academic career. Please be assured that your sons and daughters are given plenty of help and advice, including knowledge of which staff it may be useful for them to speak to in the coming weeks and months.

Over the course of this half term, Upper Fourth students will attend presentations and receive advice from a number of key staff. These include the teachers of subjects with which they are unfamiliar; Rosemary Andrews, (our Head of Careers) and Charlotte Resuggan, our Assistant Head, (Teaching and Learning) who will explain exactly how the Options process works at Sidcot.

Students will shortly receive a ‘Fifth Form GCSE Courses Booklet’, which provides further details of the Options process and course outlines for every subject. Students will also be given details of various websites that may prove useful when making GCSE choices.

Finally, we would like to invite you and your son/daughter to an informal meeting on Tuesday 19 November, starting at 6.30pm in the Drama Studio, (accessed via the Arts Centre). There will be a brief introduction to GCSEs and the options process, followed by the opportunity to discuss specific details with teachers from every subject area. Please note that you will shortly be receiving an email regarding the options process with relevant documents attached.

We look forward to seeing you.

Best wishes

Rosie Bellinger, Head of Fourth Form & Christian Hughes, Deputy Head, (Academic)
