Kind-hearted students from Sidcot School have invited pensioners from Winscombe to attend their lunchtime concerts as guests of honour. Residents from Sewell House, which provides independent living accommodation for the older generation in the village, will be taken to and from the concerts in a mini bus provided by the school.
Many of the residents have a personal connection to the school with a significant number being former members of staff or pupils. The school offers free lunchtime concerts to the local community every month but when they discovered that Sewell House residents were unable to attend because of transport difficulties they offered the use of the school mini bus and driver.
Headmaster Iain Kilpatrick said: “It is a real privilege for our students to be able to spend time with members of Sewell House who have so much knowledge and life-experience. Providing the mini bus was a great way for us to say thank you and to build on our relationship. We have some exceptionally talented young musicians at the school and I am so pleased that we are now able to share it with a wider audience.”
The lunchtime concerts give students studying for music exams the opportunity to perform in front of an audience. Recent events have also included guest performances from professional musicians including Alex Taylor who has been dubbed the UK’s answer to Bill Withers.
