It’s “work, work, work” for Cardiff Football Club!

“It’s not our talent, it’s our work ethic more than anything else that means we score goals” Callum Walsh, Head of Strength & Conditioning for Cardiff FC, explained to a group of keen sports students. “There is no room for laziness. None. And you have to have a competitive edge, almost to the point of being dangerous!”. Callum is a Sidcotian and his route to his dream job was covered in an earlier issue of this newsletter, but last Friday he returned to his old stomping ground to meet students and to share advice and suggestions to help them become the best athletes they can be.

Ultimately, like life at Sidcot (after keeping yourself fit and injury-free) it comes down to teamwork and, even though he is a fan of Tottenham at heart, there is nothing that Callum won’t do for his boys at Cardiff FC. “You support just one team – the one you work for” he said, “you get to know all the players – their dreams, their goals, what they want to achieve in each match and their career – and you can’t help but support the team”.

If you are a Sidcotian who would like to share your experience and knowledge with current pupils, provide mentoring opportunities or if you could offer a work-experience placement to a student, please email Jess Winchester - alumni@sidcot.org.uk
