Gold Duke of Edinburgh Expedition

Congratulations to Maddy Northcott, Jack Cholmondeley, William Lewin and Matthew Boddy who completed their Gold DofE expedition in the Brecon Beacons last weekend. This is a four-day expedition in Wild country with the students walking 50 miles carrying all of their personal and camping gear. Campsites were on farms with basic facilities and the route went over the mountains including Pen y fan the highest peak in the area. Overall the weather was pretty good with the first two days sunny with a brisk breeze and the final days cloudy with some rain. The group completed the task efficiently and followed the route without incident always being cheerful and supportive to each other.

The assessor for the expedition was ex- Sidcot maths teacher Lynda Redding. Lynda has been involved with Sidcot DofE for the last 15 years and this was probably her final expedition. Lynda guided us through the early days of eDofE the DofE on-line system and has provided female staffing needed on many expeditions.
