Frankenstein Production

Last week Sidcot School’s Drama Department presented the Sixth Form production of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. It was an exciting modern twist on the well-known and iconic text.

The Sixth Form cast worked hard to produce this ambitious and exciting play and were delighted to be joined by one brave Year 7, taking on the role of Frankenstein’s younger brother. It was great to see so many of you there!

Here are some words from a couple of students who were involved in the production;

"Over the course of the last few months, myself and my fellow Sixth Form drama students (along with the help of a couple of keen non-drama students and one Year 7) edited, designed, directed, and performed Nick Dear’s theatrical adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic 1818 novel Frankenstein.

We performed to sold-out shows by marketing through Eventbrite and School assemblies as well as posters and fliers. The lighting and sound were operated by students and the costumes were selected by us with some aid from Kerrin Turner.

Our large traverse stage was built in an extraordinary single week by our very own Chris Glover. Mr Hewer was immensely supportive in allowing us rehearsal time during both lessons and after school and giving us direction, performance notes, and tips throughout.

As of now we are still receiving kind words and feedback from all those who came to watch and enjoyed the show. A huge thank you to everyone involved in coming together to create what resulted in a truly memorable and professional experience for both those directly involved and those who came to watch.

Myself and some of those involved with this project are very excited for our next theatrical endeavour coming to you in September in the form of Martin McDonagh’s twisted and brilliant ‘The Pillowman’ so keep an eye out for that as soon as we get back to school after a well-deserved rest over summer.

A huge thank you from me and the rest of the drama studio for your unwavering support and we hope to see you back for more in a couple of months. See you then."
