Duke of Edinburgh Award Expedition to Exmoor

For pupils in Year 11 and above, exams dominate the Summer term making it difficult to organise DofE expeditions and take advantage of the longer days and better weather at this time of year. It was therefore a relief to take an enthusiastic group of lower sixth and pathway students to Exmoor this weekend for Silver and Gold expeditions. The weather was excellent and notably one group carried tents for 3 days without sleeping in them as they preferred to be outside under the stars. Everyone coped very well with camping and navigation and it was pleasing to see groups supporting each other as back packing in hot weather is challenging not only because of the heat but also as packs are made heavier by the water needed to ensure full hydration.
