Duke of Edinburgh Award Diamond Challenge

Duke of Edinburgh Award Diamond Challenge

2016 is the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Duke of Edinburgh award and to celebrate groups and individuals have been invited to complete a Diamond Challenge. Our Sidcot challenge has been to gain 60 awards at Bronze, Silver and Gold level during the year and with days to spare we have reached our target which exceeds our previous record of 59 awards completed during 2008.

The sixtieth award was a Bronze completed by Savina Mu in Upper Fifth. For her award Savina did volunteering at the Weston Hospicecare charity shop in Weston-super-Mare, was part of the Sidcot netball squad for her Physical Recreation and had piano lessons for the skill section. Her final expedition was on Exmoor.

Earlier in the year Jim Scott, DofE Manager, and Iain Kilpatrick, Headmaster, attended a celebration award ceremony in the grounds of Buckingham Palace and in November Tim Tur represented us at a service of thanks giving in Westminster Abbey.

Our programme of expeditions and training has been as busy as ever with expeditions to the Quantocks, Exmoor, the Black Mountains, Brecon Beacons and Tanzania. The award continues to maintain its popularity with students and record numbers are enrolling with the scheme.
