Chernobyl Children's Visit to Sidcot

Chernobyl Children's Visit to Sidcot

School House Girls and School House Boys have been raising money for the Chernobyl Children Lifeline charity for the last couple of years. The aim is to support children (and their families) from Belarus forever affected by the world's worst nuclear disaster. You might recall our soft toy collection back in April where we managed to collect over 200 soft toys!

The money raised by the Bristol branch helps bring at least sixteen children from Belarus to Bristol each summer for four weeks of fresh air, uncontaminated food, fun, as well as dental and eye check-ups.

This summer, my husband and I hosted for the first time. We welcomed Danik and Gleb, two 11-year old-boys from Belarus into our home for two weeks. The boys went on daily trips with the group but we were also able to take the boys out when they had free time. They visited places such as the Roman Baths, Weston-super-Mare, Cheddar Gorge, and also spent a weekend in the New Forest. They also went bowling, golfing, learnt to swim and ate plenty of BBQ food! Weirdly enough, they were very keen to meet the dentist and really enjoyed their visit there. It was tough to say goodbye to them after the busy fortnight we spent together, but we were soon reunited as we travelled to Belarus this summer and met them and their families there!

SHG and SHB managed to raise £500 last year for the charity and I am hoping that this year, we will raise even more.
