1st XV Rugby Season Report

1st XV Rugby Season Report

It has been fantastic to see so many committed players who are keen to represent the School with 19 of our Sixth Form playing fixtures this term, ably supported by some Upper Fifth players at times.

Although results haven’t gone our way the players have made fantastic progress over the course of the year. They've improved performances game on game against high quality opponents and were unfortunate to lose key performers through injury and overseas trips as the season built to a crescendo.

The year started positively with a comfortable win against Blundells 3rd XV, a team we expected to beat. Spirits were high going into the first big test against Wells Cathedral School's 1st XV where their boys put up a spirited fight, despite some players being unavailable due to university open days – they went down 34-17.

Some brilliant tries were scored in a thriller against Bristol Cathedral School which was nip and tuck throughout, but ran away from us in the final 10 minutes to lose 48-31. A tough fixture followed against rugby hothouse Queens Taunton, where the boys never gave up despite the difference in experience between the two sides.

The season ended with the eagerly anticipated clash with Winscombe Colts and as usual the crowd were treated to a feast of flowing rugby under the Friday night lights. Again we competed well, but the game got away from us at the end, losing 34-17.

A big thank you to all the boys who represented the School – a brilliant effort against sides with more strength in depth of their playing resources.
