As we head into the final stretch of the academic year, we’re embracing a unique and valuable opportunity — a summer term without the pressure of SATs, and with more time to focus on learning that lasts.
Without the time-consuming preparation for national testing, we’re redirecting our energy toward deeper academic engagement, personal growth, and a broader, richer educational experience. Meaning we can prioritise what really matters: developing students who are curious, confident, and capable of thinking critically and working independently.
While there may be no SATs, our commitment to academic rigour is stronger than ever. Teachers are focusing on strengthening key skills — reading comprehension, mathematical reasoning, expressive writing, and scientific inquiry — through meaningful lessons that challenge students to think deeply and work with precision.
We’re encouraging pupils to ask questions, reflect on their learning, and strive for excellence in everything they do. The absence of tests doesn’t mean a drop in standards — it means more purposeful learning, less stress, and a greater love for discovery.
With more space in the term, we’re also thrilled to offer experiences that stretch learning beyond the four walls of the classroom — activities that support personal development and teamwork while reinforcing academic foundations.
Our residential camp to Mendip Activity Centre was full of adventure, independence, and real-world learning. Pupils challenged themselves physically and mentally, built resilience, and learnt the value of collaboration — skills that are just as important as academic ones.
We’re also well underway with rehearsals for this year’s school production, ‘What a Knight’. The play offers students the chance to explore creativity, build confidence in public speaking, and take pride in contributing to a shared goal. From auditioning to learning lines and set design to the performance, there’s a role for every child to shine.
This summer term is a chance to reignite a love for learning, explore passions, and finish the year with a renewed sense of achievement. Whether through classroom challenge, outdoor exploration, or artistic expression, our pupils are growing in every direction; ready for their next big adventure in the Senior School.
