What an incredible culinary adventure for Charlie (Year 9). We are so proud of him following his fantastic achievement in the local finals of the prestigious FutureChef UK competition.
Charlie poured his heart into a truly special, high-skill dish: a creative tribute to his mother featuring chicken cooked two ways with colcannon mash and glazed carrots. His dedication and flair in the kitchen have paid off, as he finished in an outstanding 2nd Place! The competition was fierce, with the top three competitors separated by only 0.7 points.
Charlie shared his perspective on the competition and what he took away from the day:
"It was an amazing experience. All of the competitors were so nice and friendly and the chefs were lovely. The top three were so close, and I ended up coming 2nd Place, which is so amazing, and it was within 0.7 points of me and the number one. I'm hoping to come back and give it another shot next year. Overall, this was an amazing experience and I'm really proud of what I did."
His talent is a wonderful example of the excellence we champion through our Food Technology program, which includes Professional Cookery Courses (Level 2 & 3). Well done, Charlie, what a talent!

The FutureChef UK competition, run by the Springboard Charity, is a prestigious, nationwide culinary initiative for young people aged 12-16. It's one of the country's most exciting school-level cooking competitions, aiming to inspire students to develop their skills and consider the hospitality industry as a vibrant career choice.
- The Challenge: Competitors must design, cook, and present a two-course meal within a set time and budget, judged by professional chefs on skills, presentation, and taste.
