Sidcot Girls Football Success!

At Sidcot, we think it's important to provide as many opportunities as possible to our students so that they can find their passion. A recent addition to our long list of co-curricular activities is Girls Football. Last year, we introduced the sport as an option to our Senior School girls, and this year we extended the option out to the Junior School with great success!

Junior School Girls Football

With a team of just 3 attending to begin with, girls football has understandably become an incredibly popular afterschool Club option, now with 12 regular attendees!

Not only have we seen our young students developing their skills significantly, but they are increasingly becoming a cohesive team, and most importantly all having a fantastic time learning something new.

Our junior team have put everything they've learnt to the test this year through a number of fixtures against other schools, with both wins and losses helping them to become a better team.

After sadly losing the North Somerset Knockout Cup match, they went into the ‘Plate’ competition and beat Sandford to qualify for Finals Day. At Finals Day, they won both their group matches 2-1 and qualified for the final - an excellent showing for a brand new team!

Unfortunately they ended their fight for the plate as runners-up, having lost against a much more experienced team in the final; Milton Park. Not to be deterred, our Junior School Girls are in high spirits and can't wait to start training again, determined to continue developing and improve upon their competition position next year!

Senior School Girls Football

The ever-improving Sidcot Girls football team went up against Clifton High Girls in the first match of the season this term.

In the lead up to the occasion, all the girls attended training religiously and worked hard to build their fitness and skills, motivated to put their all into this game and have a good time! The match took place in very tricky conditions, in sweltering heat and away at Clifton High on their lovely 3G pitch.

It was an incredibly close encounter with chances at either end, and it was clear how much the girls had improved! Clifton went into the break 2-1 ahead and then scored early in the second half. Not to be discouraged, Sidcot Girls rallied and took control of the game, pulling the score back to 3-2. In an unfortunate turn of events, Sidcot then hit the post only to see Clifton go down the other end and score, highlighting the fine margins in which the game was decided.

Overall, this was a great effort by all the girls and a really exciting game! We can't wait to see more of this teamwork, sportsmanship, and future success when the team reforms next year!
