Congratulations to our Year 13 students who received their A Level and BTEC results this morning, as well as our International Baccalaureate (IB) students who received their results earlier this summer. After years of hard work, dedication to both academic and extracurricular pursuits, and commitment to their personal goals, these fantastic results are a fitting culmination of their time at School.
As a non-selective boarding and day school, we are delighted to see an increase in the positive value added (VA) score across all qualifications, with our BTEC students receiving, on average, a whole grade higher than predicted. With a range of pathways available to our Sixth Form students, we are proud that across the entire range of courses undertaken by our Year 13 cohort, grades achieved were equivalent to 31.5% A*-A, 54.6% A*-B, and 75% A*-C.
Our students are now set to pursue their passions in fields as diverse as their interests and talents, including Medicine, Languages, Fashion Design, Commercial Music and Chemistry. They have secured places at a range of top universities, specialist schools, and apprenticeships, including 15% of students choosing to study at international institutions.
At Sidcot, we welcome students from approximately 30 countries every year, with many of these students joining our Sixth Form. This year, 45% of Year 13 students are international boarding students, who more than rose to the challenge of studying subjects and sitting examinations in their second language. We're incredibly proud of this year's cohort, with so many individual stories of success. These include:
Head Student Onyinye received exceptional results of A*, A, A, and has accepted a place at the University of Warwick to study Chemistry. Reflecting on her achievement, Onyinye said:
“I’m delighted to share that I’ve achieved the results to take up my place to study Chemistry at the University of Warwick! Joining Sidcot for Sixth Form was one of the best decisions I’ve made — in just two years, I’ve had the privilege of serving as Head Student and experiencing incredible personal growth. I’m deeply grateful for the support and encouragement I’ve received from all my teachers, across every subject, as well as the teachers who didn’t directly teach me, but also made an impact on my Sidcot experience. Mrs Pike, our Head of Careers’ guidance has been invaluable, and I’m grateful she supported me in figuring out what course I should apply for. I’m excited for the future and all that lies ahead, and I look forward to returning to visit Sidcot again soon!”
Lead learner in History and Languages, Jacob achieved A*, A, A, and will study Languages at the University of Cambridge. Commenting on his success, Jacob said:
"I'm incredibly happy to have achieved my A Level results today and to accept my offer to study Spanish and French at the University of Cambridge. Although I’ve only been at Sidcot for two years, the incredible support from both staff and students has shaped my academic journey. From serving as Charity and Events Officer to taking part in Model United Nations, I could not have done it without Sidcot!
I want to give an enormous thanks to my teachers: Mrs Bowen and Mrs Fielder for inspiring a love of History; Celine and Dr Harbridge for their kindness and dedication in French; and my three incredible Spanish teachers — Mrs Winchester-Snell, Mr Weidner, and of course Gemma — for their constant encouragement and support. I owe a very special thank you to Mrs Pike for her dedication, guidance, and incredible support with my university application. While I’m so excited to begin this next chapter, I will never forget the friendship and sense of community I’ve found here at Sidcot and congratulations to all my fellow Year 13 students on your fantastic results!"
Achieving top grades of A*, A*, A, A, boarding student Amalia commented:
"I am delighted with the results I have achieved in my A Levels and so grateful for all the help and support I received from my teachers over the last two years. They were always willing to spend extra time explaining or marking my work. These two years in boarding have prepared me for university by helping me to gain independence and to learn to live with others and support each other. I’m delighted that I’m going to study Politics and Social Anthropology at the University of Manchester which I chose with the invaluable help and support of Mrs Pike, our careers advisor."
Further success stories include:
Eleanor, Distinction* Distinction – UWE, Physiotherapy
"I was delighted to receive my BTEC Sport result of D*D after 2 very enjoyable years studying. The sports team at Sidcot are very supportive and I outperformed my expectations with their help and guidance. The structure of the BTEC was well-suited to my learning strengths, and I am looking forward to moving on to my first choice of university to study Physiotherapy with a foundation year. Thank you, Sidcot."
Joe, A, A, A - University of Leeds, International Business
"Having worked hard all year in my subjects, I'm thrilled to have achieved grades even higher than what I was expecting. I really appreciate the support from my teachers, especially my History teachers, who have been absolutely amazing from top-tier lessons to always being available to answer questions and help with revision. I've really been encouraged at Sidcot to be curious, research independently, and learn around my lessons, and this has set me up well for my university studies. I'll miss all the amazing teachers and friends I've met at Sidcot over the last 10 years, but I am really looking forward to taking my learning further at the University of Leeds."
Rose Kerr-Smiley, A, A, A - Gap Year
"I'm thrilled to have achieved straight A's in my A Levels. My teachers supported me to achieve my best, and I'm so grateful for both the academic advice and pastoral care I received throughout my Sixth Form career. I'm now planning to take a gap year to gain some work experience and spend time in South America to practice Spanish, as this is what I would like to study at university."
Emily, A*, A, B - Kingston University, Fashion Design
“I’m proud to have achieved my results today, and I am thrilled to get my first choice place to study Fashion Design at Kingston University in London, which has been a dream of mine since I was younger! I joined Sidcot in Sixth Form to study Textiles and Art and with my teachers support I was able to achieve a portfolio of work that I am happy with and can’t wait to take it into my next chapter!”
Commenting on the results, James Jones, Head, said:
“We are delighted to celebrate the achievements of our students who have received their A Level and BTEC grades today, alongside those who gained their International Baccalaureate results in July. These results are the culmination of their determination, curiosity, and commitment over the past two years, and reflect the breadth of talent within this year’s cohort. Once again, our leavers will go on to study at leading universities in the UK and internationally, following in the footsteps of previous generations of Sidcot students.
While academic success is an important milestone, it is only part of their story. This year’s Upper Sixth have developed the adaptability, empathy, and critical thinking skills that are increasingly valued in higher education and the workplace. They have demonstrated leadership, creativity, and a strong moral compass—qualities that will equip them to make a positive difference in a rapidly changing world.
I am deeply proud of what they have achieved and who they have become. I am also grateful to our dedicated staff, supportive parents, and the wider school community, all of whom have played an essential role in guiding and inspiring our students throughout their time at Sidcot."
