On Wednesday 13 February Oliver Painter, Poppy Hill and myself joined students from a host of Bristol schools for the first ever Bristol Teen Book Award. The event was held at Bristol Central Library. A shortlist of six YA diversity novels has been read across the city and hotly debated. The shortlisted authors ran workshops (we took part in the workshop ran by Bali Rai) and competitions. Sharmaine Lovegrove, publisher, ran a panel interview with all of the shortlisted authors who were able to attend, before presenting the prize to the winning author, Penny Joelson for her novel I have no secrets. A fantastic opportunity to spend time with other keen readers from across the area. The Sidcot students were a credit to themselves and the School for their engagement in the afternoon.
