Author visit – Julia Green

Junior School pupils from J3-J6 were joined by Julia Green. Julia has published 18 books for children and young adults, and she is also a Professor of Writing at Bath Spa University. Julia spoke to us about her newest novel, The House of Light. The main characters are living at a time when many of their personal freedoms have been taken away. Bonnie helps Ish, a stranger who has arrived by boat, escape so he can make his way to a safer place. The story, suitable for J4 to Third Form, fits well with our Quaker ethos. Julia also gave us a creative writing master class, encouraging the children to use their imaginations and their drawing skills when writing. Julia answered questions and signed copies of her book. We were also joined by a group of children and staff from Churchill Primary School and all of the children behaved impeccably whilst listening to Julia’s presentation.

This event was supported by Sidcotian, Alistair Sim and his bookshop, Books on the Hill, in Clevedon. Further information on the books Julia has written can be found on her website
