The Messiah at the Royal Albert Hall

The Messiah at the Royal Albert Hall

On Sunday 27 November the Music Department took 40 choristers to the Royal Albert Hall in London to take part in The Scratch Youth Messiah.

More than 1,500 young singers from 42 choirs joined forces singing the choruses of Handel's great oratorio, including the famous Hallelujah.

The performance was accompanied by The English Festival Orchestra and conducted by Ben Parry.

For many of our students it was their first time in the Royal Albert Hall – it was delightful to hear their gasps of amazement as they entered the performance area and realised the enormity of the event. Although they were understandably exhausted by the time they arrived back at school, all were in agreement that it was an experience they would remember for a long time.

I would like to personally thank all the students involved for their dedication in what was a very intense rehearsal period, and for their impeccable behaviour at the venue. They truly were a credit to Sidcot. Finally, I would like to thank parents and guardians for their support in getting their children to school for 5:45am! It is greatly appreciated.
