The Darwen Lecture 2014: Students as Change Agents The Darwen Lecture 2014: Students as Change Agents

Our students were challenged to join a national initiative called ‘Take over Day’. The event instigated by Dr Maggie Atkinson, the Children’s Commissioner, focuses on making sure that adults in charge, or making decisions, listen to what children and young people say about things that affect them. She encourages adults, including the people making decisions about children’s lives, always to take their rights, views and interests into account. With this national initiative in mind, the audience on Friday were challenged with ‘taking over’ Sidcot School on Friday 21 November.

The response from the students was positive and a real buzz went around the Meeting house. So, does Sidcot want to rise to the challenge, who will lead the activity and work with others to come up with a plan of action?

If you want to join the planning and action group then give your name in at the Library or speak to the Head Boy, Kenrick or Head Girl Gaby. We will have a group of 12 students leading on the day, working with staff to make it happen.
