Stomp rockets Stomp rockets Stomp rockets Stomp rockets Stomp rockets

Year 9 investigates how to make a model rocket go the furthest. It’s going to be launched by air pressure, but what angle should I launch it? Should I make it as light as possible, or would a heavier rocket be better at overcoming air resistance? What about fins to keep it pointing the right way - or do they create too much drag?

These were the questions Year 9 students had to consider for their afternoon Science activities this term. In teams, they designed and made “stomp rockets” and then competed to see which design gave the greatest range out on the field. The winning team was Tom, Zack, Finn, Archie & Finn (yes – there are two Finns!) with a distance of 37 metres. As you can see, the students got quite competitive!
