Staffing for January 2017

Staffing for January 2017

I would like to advise you of the following changes to teaching staff in January:

Colleagues leaving

Niel Doig – Faculty Head of Technology. After a commitment of some 17 years, Niel has decided to hang up his workshop coat to concentrate on personal projects outside teaching. He has been a powerhouse of design creativity and led the Faculty with distinction and flair. Niel has also made a huge contribution to school life in its widest sense and will be much missed at Sidcot.

Sarah Smith – Teacher of Maths and Deputy Head of Sixth Form. One of those members of staff who wears multiple hats, Sarah is leaving to take up the post of Head of Mathematics at Weston College. She has been a housemistress, Head of Careers and UCAS advisor in addition to the role for which she will be most remembered by students, Deputy Head of Sixth Form. We wish her well in this latest iteration of her career in teaching and are very grateful for all she has contributed to Sidcot over the years.

David Bignell – Director of Drama. After a short time with us, David has decided to look for a teaching post closer to where he lives. We thank him for his contribution to the Drama department.

Jacqueline Davies – Teacher of Science. Jackie has decided to return to the commercial world where she worked before coming to teaching and is setting up a food development consultancy.

Gemma Hodges – Teacher of Geography. Although not leaving until mid-January, Gemma has decided to concentrate on post-graduate studies and looking after her young family.

Rob Moore – Teacher of PE. Having completed his NQT year with us, Rob will be continuing his teaching career and we wish him well.

Colleagues joining

Rosie Andrew – Head of Careers. Rosie has a varied background in careers guidance having worked with schools, in colleges and through her own consultancy.

Clair Curtis-Dyke – Teacher of Geography. Clair is returning to teaching following a career break. She is an examiner for A Level and GCSE and has previously taught IB.

Kirstie Davis – Teacher of Drama. Kirstie joins us from the world of professional theatre, having previously been artistic director of the Forest Forge Theatre Company in the New Forest. Charlotte Resuggan will be resuming the role of Director of Drama for the rest of the academic year.

Craig Figes – Teacher of Water Polo. Craig is returning to teaching after a career in elite sport. He has competed in water polo at the highest levels, including captaining the GB Men’s Team at the London Olympics.

Matthew Lloyd – Teacher of PE. Matthew has most recently been involved in sports education consultancy. He has coaching qualifications in a range of sports including rugby and football.

John Parry – Faculty Head of Maths. John joins us from Worle School having previously been head of department at two previous schools. Although stepping down as Head of Faculty, I am delighted that Graham Hartley is remaining on staff as a teacher and school timetable.

Tom Ruddle – Faculty Head of Technology. Tom is currently at St Dunstan’s School having taught more locally at Kings of Wessex Academy.

Kate Champion – Teacher of Biology. Returning to teaching after a career break, Kate has previously been a head of department.
