Boys’ U13 Cricket v Clifton High School, Tuesday 21 June: Sidcot 91 for 9 / CHS 95 for 6

A much changed side made the short trip into Bristol to take on a team Clifton High School. With Clifton electing to bat first, Sidcot were eager to ensure a positive start in the field.  With Jacob Perry and Henry Binks finding their line and length early, Clifton were made to scrap for every single run. Despite their accurate bowling, Sidcot were unable to find a breakthrough however as the Clifton openers proved to be exceptionally stubborn in defence.

With the scoreboard ticking over, Sidcot were finally rewarded for their superb efforts, Louis Browne getting the first wicket of the day following a regulation catch from Captain Perry. One soon became two as Toby Pratt got in on the act; Pratt sending his first ball crashing into the stumps. With the overs running out, Clifton started to push hard. However, Sidcot were determined to ensure their earlier efforts did not go to waste and fought back, claiming several late wickets, including a second catch from Perry off of the bowling of Joss Grove.

With Clifton finishing on 95 for 6, Sidcot knew they had to begin on the front foot. Despite losing a wicket early on, Sidcot kept pace with the run rate thanks to the reliable Perry and Binks. At 29 for 1 off 5 overs, Sidcot were in a strong position. But, disaster soon struck for Sidcot with the loss of several quick wickets. Having been in a position of strength, Sidcot now found themselves 33 for 4 from 6 overs.

With their tails up, Clifton sensed victory and it appeared they would take the spoils easily with the steady fall of wickets continuing. Sidcot weren’t about to give up easily though. With Toby Finch leading the fight back, Sidcot pulled themselves back into the game and began the last over with the match very much in the balance.  Sadly, Sidcot had left themselves too much to do and fell just 5 runs short of victory, finishing on 91 for 9.

Well to all everyone involved in what was enthralling encounter.

Boys' U14 Cricket v Clifton High School, Tuesday 21 June: Sidcot 75 all out / CHS 96 for 4

An enthusiastic Sidcot team travelled to Clifton High School for a fun 16 over shoot out. Sidcot could not have got off to a better start with Joe Jonas taking the opening batsman's middle stump out with the first ball. Clifton steadied the ship and went on to score a very creditable 96. Requiring a high total, Sidcot were forced to chase the run rate against some very accurate bowling and took a few early casualties. Will Ford scored a very impressive 30 to keep Sidcot in the match.
