Sidcot Equestrian Stars are crowned County Champions and will represent Avon at the NSEA County Championships

Two teams competed on Sunday in the 70cm National Schools Equestrian Association County Challenge Show Jumping Qualifier. With schools from both Somerset and Avon competing, Sidcot were jumping for the chance to represent Avon at the County Championships in April 2016.

The students had a very early start with a 7.30am course walk, ready to start jumping at 9am. The Sidcot Stars rode first: Maisie Warren riding Duke, Lottie Gunter riding Toby and Erin Crofts riding Rosco, all Third Form students. The girls rode lovely clear rounds over the 13 fences.

Next to jump were the Sidcot Sizzlers: Elsa Cardale riding Cameron, Sophie Lee riding Billy and Henry Blair riding Coco; all Year 6. Again, fantastic riding by all team riders with the team finishing on just eight faults.

Both teams jumped superbly in a very high standard competition of 15 teams (55 riders) and Sophie in particular rode very well with a clear fast round. Maisie, Lottie and Erin won the Avon team section and have qualified to go to Bury Farm Equestrian in Buckinghamshire to compete for the National title. Sophie's fast round put her on top of the Avon riders so she too will be riding at the Championships.

Sidcot school was again represented by two teams in the 80cm class: Maisie, Lottie and Caoimhe Collery on Zed were first out and came through on four faults only. This put them first amongst the Avon teams and they thereby picked up another Country qualifying title and will be representing Avon and Sidcot at the Championships. An amazing achievement. Elsa, Sophie and Erin made up the second team. Unfortunately, they had a couple of issues over a bigger course and were eliminated as a team but a couple of very promising individual rounds were noted. Well done!

Sidcot did not have a team in the 90cm or 1m classes but Frida Cardale (Y10) rode for Sidcot as an individual. Frida and her horse, Sienna, had clear rounds in both classes and Frida was the only one of the Avon riders who managed this in the 1m class. Frida thereby picked up the County Champion title for Avon and will also be travelling to the Championships.

A very successful day for Sidcot school and all riders!
