The Equestrian Team has been out competing at National Schools Equestrian Association events over the last couple of weeks.
Bicton Arena in Devon hosted an Arena Eventing and a Dressage competition on 4 October; both competitions being qualifying events for the NSEA Championships held in Buckinghamshire later this month.
Sidcot was represented in the 75cm class by Sophie Lee (Year 6), Frida Cardale (Year 10), Maisie Warren (Year 7) and Elsa Cardale (Year 6). Maisie and Elsa each had very good clear rounds, over a combination of show jumps and cross country jumps. Unfortunately Frida and Sophie picked up some faults but the Team finished 4th out of 14 teams. A really good effort. The dressage team consisted of Sophie, Erin Crofts (Year 7), Maisie and Frida. Sophie rode her pony Billy beautifully and finished 4th (the first three placings qualified for the National Championships) which was a great achievement, so well done Sophie! The team finished 7th out of 12 teams.
On 10 October the Equestrian Team travelled to Bryanston School in Dorset. We had a team of four in the 75cm show jumping class – Maisie Warren, Elsa Cardale, Lottie Gunter (Year 7) and Sophie Lee. Elsa and Lottie navigated a tricky course of 12 show jumped beautifully and they were both clear however, both Maisie and Sophie picked up a few faults along the way. Frida Cardale, Maisie, Lottie and Elsa rode in the 85cm class. Frida rolled a pole over the last fence but was otherwise clear. Maisie was aiming for a very fast time but it didn't pay off this time and she picked up 8 faults. Elsa and her pony Cameron flew over what was a fairly big course and would have been clear if they hadn't got lost and picked up some time faults as a result. Lottie and her pony Toby went beautifully, up until the penultimate jump when Toby, spooked by a mirror, decided to stop.
We didn't quite manage to qualify for the Nationals as a team this year however, Maisie Warren, having qualified in the 85cm show jumping, will travel to Addington in a couple of weeks, flying the Sidcot flag. We wish her the best of luck!
