On Wednesday 24 September we were delighted to welcome a group of 47 students and their teachers from 44 Junior High School in Warsaw. The visit was organised by the European Youth Centre in conjunction with the Sidcot Centre for Peace and Global Studies. The students, mostly 15-16 years old, were paired up with their Year 10 hosts upon arrival, who took them to lunch and showed them round Sidcot. In the afternoon, they and their hosts participated in a series of workshops run by the Modern Languages and Geography departments, where students had the chance to learn each others’ languages in a speed dating type of activity; to give PowerPoint presentations about their respective lives and schools; to interview each other about facts and statistics relating to their country and to study the theme of tourism. Students thoroughly enjoyed the experience of meeting each other and making new contacts and everyone learnt something new about their countries. We look forward to further contact with our Polish friends.
