At the end of January, 24 very tired Lower Fifth History students and their teachers returned from an informative and exciting trip to Berlin. The theme was The Cold War and there can be few places better to study the impact of this than Berlin. We visited the Olympic Stadium to understand some of the background followed by Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp which was used both pre and post 1945. Visits to the Stasi prison and a Cold War walking tour plus Checkpoint Charlie and the DDR museum gave a full and, at some times, frank realisation of the realities of the periods studied in lessons. The students were fantastic in their approach and behaviour and a big thank you to Graham Hartley and Katie Whiting for their tireless enthusiasm and hard work.
