Earlier this month, L5 student Riley Phillips was confirmed as 2016 Whilton Mill JuniorMax Club Champion for the second year running.
This was Riley's first year in the Junior Class (up to age 17). Knowing the track gave him an advantage, but he has also had to work hard increasing his fitness and strength for the more powerful junior karts. However, after nine monthly races he won the championship with two rounds to spare.
2016 has also been spent preparing for a transition to cars; Riley has tested Ginettas and over Christmas will test junior saloon cars at Donnington. He has also been lucky enough to enjoy hospitality at Silverstone with BTCC Touring Cars and a highlight was probably his visit to the F1 team Haas.
As well as competing in the UK National Rotax winter tour, Riley will be working hard in the next few months trying to secure funding for a 2017 drive.
Riley will also be part of a Sidcot team with Will Ford and Spencer Cole entering the British Schools Karting Championship (BSKC) in 2017 where supporters will be most welcome!
BSKC Organiser Adrienne Watson says: "We are delighted to welcome the team of young karters from Sidcot School to the grid for the British Schools Karting Championship. 2017 is shaping up to be a strong year for the championship and it is particularly pleasing to see so many schools who have not raced with us before, like Sidcot, registering to compete. The team will face strong competition in their Local Final at Bristol so we wish them every success and hope to see them qualify through to the South West Regional Final at the Thruxton Kart Centre in April."
