Swapping heels for trainers and proving that you’re never too old to learn something new, Headmaster’s PA, Deborah Meredith (right), took up running 6 months ago in an effort to get fit and lose weight. Having proclaimed never to have run for a bus before she undertook her first 10k in June 2015, completing it in 1hr 12mins, she joined Weston Athletic Club’s ‘Rudolph’s in Training: 0-10k in 10 weeks’ programme and will be running the Christmas Cracker 10k on Sunday 6 December 2015 along Weston beach, wearing antlers and tinsel!
Admissions Manager, Rachael Coates (left), has bravely volunteered to join Deborah on race day and Sidcot’s Head of Science, Jim Scott, an experienced runner, is also running the Cracker.
All entry fees for the race raise money for Weston Hospicecare and the WAC Rudolphs have so far raised in excess of £2,000 for the Charity. Deborah is also raising sponsorship for a Bristol-based charity she supports, One25 – Step away from the Streets, which aims to get girls off the streets.
Not wanting to stop running after the ‘Cracker’ she has also signed up to run the Hangover 10k at 11am on New Year’s Day and is contemplating the Two Bays Tough Ten (miles) in February, she has also bravely said that she would like to attempt a half marathon in 2016 as a way to celebrate her 45th birthday. Watch this space!
All of Deborah’s runs will be raising sponsorship for One25, if you’d like to sponsor her and raise funds for this charity her fundraising page page is: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/DJM
