Wednesday 3 October
We hosted our first ever Gap Year Fair! The Fair was organised by Inspiring Futures, a private careers organisation working with independent schools across the UK and abroad. Thirteen organisations attended the event offering a rich variety of gap years, work experience, internships, summer holiday jobs, summer courses, expeditions as well as community and conservation projects – both in the UK and abroad.
Students were invited from Upper Fifth to Upper Sixth, plus parents as well as students from two local schools. Students were able to find out first-hand about the opportunities that await them, allowing them to supplement their education and career plans with yet more opportunities to gain useful experience, confidence and skills. There were some amazing opportunities on offer ranging from marine conservation in Mozambique, veterinary medicine and animal care in South Africa, teaching in Italy, cookery courses in the UK to ski-instructors and chalet maids in France… and much more besides.
Opportunities like these not only add value to students’ CVs and applications but also set them apart from others, so always worth considering. Feedback received from the event was very positive and we shall certainly be putting on similar events in the future.
