Week Ending Friday 3rd November
On 12th October the Art Department took a small number of Sixth Form students to an exhibition and lecture at the Bishop's Palace in Wells. For a number of years now, an organisation called Wells Art Contemporary have been organising an annual Art exhibition in Wells, and for the past two years we have entered work from our students. This year, as the main organiser, Kate Nobel, has sadly passed away, there was no open exhibition, but in its place a smaller exhibition of the work of past WAC winners, along with an inaugural lecture in memory of Kate. The lecture was given by a local sculptor, Peter Robinson, on his fascination with cave painting and rock art. The image included here, the work of our IB students, and done on the same day as the lecture, and in some way reminded me of the images of hands in cave art, in that they are direct silhouettes created by lying down on a sheet coated with Cyanotype emulsion – a tenuous link, I know...
