Week Ending Friday 29th September
Last week we took all our Third Form students on a trip to Bristol, to visit the University Botanical Gardens and Bristol Zoo. This trip was to inspire the students for this year’s topic of Flora and Fauna.
At the Botanical Gardens we were treated to a tour and talk, which took us on an historical journey through the evolution of plant life on Planet Earth, how they have developed, and their remarkable diversity. There are plants that only grow in very small areas, even one, we learned, that it native to the Avon Gorge, and other plants that emit a smell like rotting meat – yuk.
There was an opportunity for students to do some sketching before we moved on to Bristol Zoo for an afternoon of sketching and taking photographs of the animals, insects and fish.
Students have all created a page on Firefly called ‘Art Portfolio’, and inside this there is a page about the trip that students have created, recoding their experience, and showcasing the photos and drawings that they did.
Over the coming year students will continue to add to their portfolios, both the work that they do in school, and hopefully examples of art that they create in their own time, or arty photographs that they might take.
