Fish gill skills

L6 have been studying the gas exchange system in humans, insects and fish. This week pupils were studying the anatomy and physiology of fish gills and had the opportunity to dissect the gills of a cod. The pupils really got stuck in and observed the gill filaments spreading out when submerged in water, producing a much larger surface area for gas exchange.
