Weston & District Netball v Vixens, Wednesday 14 December: Sidcot 64 – 7 Vixens

What a fabulous way to end 2016 with an emphatic win over fellow league contenders, Vixens. On this occasion the Sidcot girls just proved far too strong and were allowed to play fast free flowing netball throughout the whole game. The pressure exerted by Sidcot on their opponents was also decisive, turning over many lost possessions, which the shooters delighted in converting.

The mid court trio of Fatou Tounkara, Jasmine Moroney and Millie Heslington saw plenty of ball and were instrumental in thwarting many of Vixens' attacking moves. They worked well together and showed good awareness of each other’s space to pass the ball swiftly through the court. Zoe Mercer and Vivian Chan were kept relatively busy in the defending end, but they both coped more than adequately with Vixen’s loose passes and rebounds under the net.

At the other end of the court Maddy Hann, Millie Ashdown and Anouska Long enjoyed plenty of quality possession as a result of some excellent feeding from Jasmine and Fatou in and around the attacking third. With every goal scored their confidence improved, enabling them to command space within the circle, which they dominated fully throughout the game. As the final score suggests all three girls showed great rhythm and consistency in their shooting, which was especially pleasing to see.

The girls can now enjoy a well-earned rest over the Christmas break and certainly on this performance can look forward to resuming their games in 2017 with renewed confidence and eagerness to win.
