Expedition training for the DofE awards is carried out in the hills close to the school with the network of footpaths providing excellent opportunities to develop navigation skills. Last weekend students who have recently started DofE had their first training day and coped very well finding their way through the countryside.
On Saturday, 29 Lower Fifth students endured heavy rain initially, but then enjoyed a fine afternoon.
On Sunday for the Silver award there were 46 students with many overseas boarders using a map and compass for the first time.
The wind and rain made keeping warm difficult and it was pleasing that everyone was so cheerful and positive.
Thanks to Graham Hartley and Sue Skyrme for organising the Bronze training and Paul Gregory and Lynda Redding for doing the Silver.
