Brave - Celebrating Compassionate Resistance
Exhibition: Brave - Celebrating Compassionate Resistance

A multi-faceted exhibition exploring the themes of Activism and Conflict. This exhibition is the first collaboration between the Arts Centre and Sidcot’s Peace and Global Studies Department.

With shows in Bristol and London already to her credit, Katy Bauer’s inspirational, large-scale “poster” creations are being exhibited. Katy’s Daughter attends Sidcot School.

Produced with the intention to provoke thought and debate, Bauer seeks to stimulate your visual senses as well as raise questions about civil liberty and resistance in today’s climate of increased corporate and government control. She believes that liberty is a precious commodity and wonders, via her Visual Activism, at what cost do we sell out our freedom.

Downstairs in the Lower Ground Gallery, the documentary photography group Lens Young Dimashqi will display images they had captured during the Syrian revolution in 2012. This brave group of photographers are based in and around Damascus, their aim to document the reality of the Assad regime’s offensive against the Syrian people.

The exhibition runs from Saturday 19th September to Saturday 17th October and is free of charge. Visiting times are: Thursdays and Fridays 11am – 5.30pm and Saturdays 10am – 4pm (last entry 30 minutes before close).

Sidcot Students Join In!
Over the last year, Sidcot School’s Art students have also been exploring the theme of conflict in their Art lessons and a selection of work in response to this will also be shown. Work was chosen at the end of the last Academic year by Georgina Micklethwaite, Cathy Pink and Jo Millar.

Year 9 Students will also be working with Katy in a series of talks exploring the exhibition’s theme.
