Group 5: Mathematics

Mathematics and Science are the strongest subjects at Sidcot with excellent results achieved at GCSE, A Level and IB.  The Mathematics Department aims to help pupils achieve their maximum potential in the subject. In addition to lessons, the department runs regular workshops to provide further help and encouragement.

Exam results for Mathematics remain consistently high at all levels and many pupils take one of the UK Mathematics Challenges (Junior, Intermediate or Senior) each year, with a very successful record.  In 2010, we beat off stiff competition to win the regional heats and went on to represent Bath, Bristol and Somerset in the national finals for the Senior Maths Challenge in London.

All students taking the IB Diploma are required to study a discipline of mathematics within their six subjects.  There is a choice depending on ability and interest ranging from the practical application of maths in Mathematical Studies, through to Standard Level Mathematics and then on to the more demanding Higher Level Mathematics.
