Sidcot Old Scholars’ Association

The aims of SOSA are:

  • Residential Easter Reunion at Sidcot with a full programme of social, musical and stage events
  • Raising money for new buildings for the school through the Sidcot Building Trust Fund.  The Sidcot Building Trust Fund and the Sidcot Bursary Trust are registered charities in their own right
  • Maintaining contact with the school in many ways, including through the staff representatives on General Committee
  • Nominating a suitably experienced member to become a governor of the school
  • Publishing an Annual Report of our affairs and up to date news of members
  • Maintaining a Scholarship Fund
  • Sending and receiving Easter greetings to and from OS Worldwide
  • Occasional help with OS Form reunions
  • Promoting OS Publications e.g. Bevan and Mabel Lean, “The Island in the Hills” Sidcot 1900-1930 and the “Sidcot Old Scholars Association 1871 – 1971″
  • One-day Reunion for recent OS each Autumn, complete with matches and social events
  • Maintaining a register of Old Scholars, their families and interests (since 1808)
  • Contact with OS worldwide through local secretaries, overseas correspondents and the editor of Sidcot In All The World
  • Raising money for both Quaker and non-Quaker pupils through the Sidcot Bursary Fund
  • Re-establishing the Hutchinson-Clothier Travel Scholarship for school leavers
  • Selling SOSA. ties, badges, books etc
  • Recording births, marriages and deaths of members

The Association’s affairs and events are ‘overseen’ by our annually appointed President, and run by the general committee (which always needs help from members) and by a few individuals taking responsibility for specific tasks
