Meet Emma
Year 10 day pupil
I’ve only been here since September. There’s a really friendly atmosphere and because of the whole Quaker ethos, it’s really caring and everyone’s really kind. One of my favourite subjects is Textiles because I love being able to create a piece of clothing that no one else has; I love being so creative with material and fabrics.
At Sidcot there’s a Student Council and we pass on suggestions of things we’d like to see changed in the school to our representatives. There is a meeting and the suggestions that might improve the school or make it better from the students’ point of view are discussed.
I think the really friendly atmosphere is because of the Quaker ethos and you do feel you can go and talk to anyone - any of the teachers. There’s not the distance that exists between the teachers and the pupils at most schools. I was bullied at my last school and because there are less people in my year at Sidcot, I just thought it would give me abetter chance to fit in.
Although there are quite a lot of overseas pupils here, the different communities get on really well. Sometimes the language barrier can be difficult but it’s really nice because you have friends from all over the world and you get to experience different peoples’ cultures. For example at Chinese New Year, we have a Chinese New Year celebration and it’s really nice to experience that culture.
