Meet Rosemara

Year 13 boarder

rosemaraI was in the Junior School, so I’ve been here about six years.  Before joining Sidcot, I lived in London and at my school everybody was from different cultures. When my mum and I were looking at schools in Somerset, we chose Sidcot because of its multicultural character. My mum wanted this to be part of my childhood.

People are so nice here, which sounds a bit cheesy but it’s true.  My dad asked me the other day if anyone got bullied here and I actually couldn’t think of anyone; at most schools you wouldn’t find that I think.

My favourite subject is Drama – because I’m good at it and because it’s fun. It’s like expressing yourself in a more obvious way than some things. There are lots of activities going on after school. You can go to art club, drama club, swimming, gym or cricket, anything sporty or arty.  You can even go to extra study groups for your subjects..

Because the classes are smaller, the tutors relate to pupils and if there’s a problem we can talk with our tutors and they try to help. If you have an unfair detention or something then they go and talk to the teacher involved.

Even if you’re not very academic you still get respect; if you’re good at sports or drama, or music or anything - people still recognise you as talented. There was a boy a few years ago who was dyslexic and didn’t get good grades apart from in music and he was a musical genius and the whole school recognised that he was talented. There are special teachers here who can help dyslexic people with the subjects that they’re struggling with.

I would like to be an actress but I don’t really mind if I’m famous or not.
