The Trevelyan Centre Library might be seen as the academic hub of the school and is staffed by a team of professionals. School Library Association guidelines and training informs the strategic planning and operation of the library. The aim of the librarians is to support and guide students with their research and study skills so that in time they can become confident independent learners. The librarian leads study skills sessions with all classes in the senior school within the PSHE programme.
The library team are also responsible for the growing Junior School Library. The Junior School management system is networked to the senior school system and all staff and students can view and search the library catalogue within their user areas. As well as having access to the Junior Library each class in the Junior School visits the Trevelyan Centre Library on a weekly basis for stories and to borrow books.
We believe that reading for pleasure is one of the joys of our recreational time and we want Sidcot students to enjoy reading. We have created a relaxed environment where students can come with their friends or on their own. We are always happy to make suggestions for a "good read". We encourage students to recommend titles they would like to see in the library and within the constraints of the budget endeavour to furnish their requests. Reading for pleasure is promoted through library events such as the biannual book fair, Readathon, shadowing the Carnegie and Greenaway awards and visits by authors and storytellers. Over the past few years visitors have included Jane Flood, Barry Cunningham, Brough Girling, Steve Voake, Theresa Breslin and Susan Cooper.
