Life in a boarding school

boarderSidcot as a boarding school is a community in which people live, work and play. A friendly family environment exists where children can be themselves and feel happy and secure. Each child is a valued member of the community and we believe that if they are happy, children will work well and take advantage of the many opportunities that our school has to offer.

Boarding allows young people to focus on their work as well as their extra curricular activities. They can be with their friends, have fun and develop into independent individuals who can confidently make their way in the world. Weekly boarding is available as an option and flexi-boarding is also possible.

Boarders live in one of five houses within the school site, each with its own particular character. There are two girls’ houses and three for boys. Each house has pleasant small dormitories and its own kitchen for pupils’ use. There are quiet work places and common rooms in which pupils can relax.

boardersIn the three houses that cater mainly for junior and middle school pupils, the majority of rooms are for three or four children sharing. Each house is single sex, and there are areas in each for visitors. Lower Sixth pupils will share with one or two other pupils and Upper Sixth pupils will have their own study or bedroom or will share with one other pupil.

It is essential that parents know that their children are safe, well looked after and can be in direct contact with Houseparents at any time. The aim of each boarding house is to provide a homely atmosphere in comfortable surroundings, where rules are kept to a minimum. Pupils make friends with day students from the local area as well as the international boarding community.

The Houseparent who is a member of the teaching staff and has a team of matron, deputy and boarding assistants, is responsible for the care and progress of all. Parents are welcome to visit at any reasonable time.

There is a Health Centre, run by experienced and qualified nurses who are ready to help any pupil with medical or personal matters.
