ICT
Children need to develop a variety of IT skills, allowing them to harness the power of technology and use it purposefully and appropriately. IT should motivate the pupil because it is fun and takes the laborious routine out of some text and information tasks, thus releasing the constraints on children’s creativity. Pupils need to recognise the power of IT in the world around them and they should become aware of the ethical implications and consequences for individuals and society posed by IT. It can enhance the learning process across the curriculum supporting collaborative learning, discussion and group work.
The objectives of teaching ICT in our school are:
- To allow pupils to gain confidence and enjoyment from their IT activities and to develop skills which extend and enhance their learning throughout the curriculum and beyond and within this gain a sense of achievement.
- To provide opportunities for pupils to gain knowledge about IT tools, including CD-ROM, word processors, databases, spreadsheets, control devices, graphics and software for processing sounds and images.
- To encourage pupils to become autonomous independent users of IT.
- To encourage pupils to use IT both as a learning resource and as a discipline in its own right.
- To recognize that IT affects the way in which people live and work.
- To use it as a specific curriculum area and as a cross-curricular tool.
- To understand the capabilities and limitations of IT within the curriculum and the world outside and the implications and consequences of its use.
- To ensure pupils have equal opportunity of access to IT provision and the IT curriculum regardless of race, gender and educational needs.
- To encourage, assist and support staff in feeling confident about their ability to use IT to support all aspects of their professional work.
