Key Stage 2 Overview
In Key Stage 2, Years 3-6 (J3-J6), we teach the foundation subjects separately. This means that, for example, a child may concentrate in one term on a history topic, then switch to a greater emphasis on geography in the next term. Thus, in due course, each child has the opportunity to experience the full range of National Curriculum subjects.
We believe that it is very important for children to reflect on what they have learned – what has been done well, and what could have been done better. We see this as an important strategy for future learning. Teachers regularly ask the children to reflect on their learning at the end of a session or topic. They talk to the child individually about their work, to make them aware of their strengths and weaknesses. Each term, we involve our children in setting their targets, so they understand what they have acheived and what they need to do to make further progress.
